The Feasibility Committee successfully completed the Foraker Group Pre-Development Program on September 23, 2010. The outcome of the Feasibility Committee’s pre-development efforts is a Project Development Plan (Appendices) for the new KPL project. This information forms the basis of applications to funders for design and construction funds.
In Fall 2009, a Feasibility Committee was formed to determine how to develop a new Ketchikan Public Library that is feasible and sustainable for the community in the long term. This evolving volunteer-based committee consists of a diverse group of Ketchikan residents, local library leadership, and representatives from commerce, governance, education and civic services.
The Foraker Group Pre-Development Program is facilitating the Committee through the critical pre-development activities to ensure the new library facility:
- Meets a documented need
- Is consistent with strategic/community plans
- Considers opportunities for collaboration
- Is affordable and fiscally sustainable
- Will not negatively impact the sustainability of the City of Ketchikan
Pre-development work will substantiate findings and advisory recommendations to the City of Ketchikan for consideration and action relative to advancing a new library facility.
It is anticipated the Committee will complete pre-development activities by mid-September 2010.
